Why isn't it in the Play Store?
It will be. While Bailiwick is in early alpha, you download it from this site. Your phone will warn you that the app comes from outside the Play Store and ask you to allow it. That's expected.
How do I install it?
Tap Download for Android on your phone and open the file when it finishes. Android will ask you to allow your browser to install apps: allow it, go back and tap Install. You only need to do this once.
Do I need an email address or phone number?
No. You pick a name and a picture, and that's your profile. There's no sign-up form and no password.
Is there an iPhone app?
Not yet. Bailiwick is Android-only during the alpha.
Is Bailiwick anonymous?
Not exactly. We don't know who you are or what you post, and frankly, we don't want to know. We also have no way to find out: there's no sign-up, no central account to track, and your posts are only ever seen by the people you choose.
But Bailiwick isn't built to hide you from the government. Think of it as casual anonymity, the kind you have walking down a public street: the people around you don't know your name, or anything else you don't choose to share, but the police could still find out if they really wanted to.
Bailiwick keeps your activity away from advertisers and strangers. If you need more protection than that, use an app built for secure communication.
Can Bailiwick see my posts?
No. Your posts go from your phone to your friends' phones. They never reach us.
What if I get a new phone?
Use "Move to a new phone" in your profile to carry your account, friends and Circles across. Your old posts stay on the old phone.
Something broke. What do I do?
Tell us! Open an issue on GitHub with what you did and what happened. If you turned on crash reports, crashes reach us on their own.
How do I get updates?
Bailiwick tells you when a new version is out and takes you to the download. Install it over the old one: your account and posts stay.
